Baroque Art Route Itinerary
In the morning, we’ll pick you up from your hotel to begin this unique experience, exploring the most representative churches and chapels of Cusco. Our first stop is the impressive Church of the Society of Jesus, located in the Plaza de Armas. This Jesuit church showcases the painting of the marriage of Beatriz Clara Coya and Captain General Martin García Loyola, symbolizing the union between the Inca lineage and Spanish nobility.
Next, we’ll visit the Chapel of the Purified Virgin of Canincunca, located 42 km south of Cusco. Since Inca times, Canincunca served as a gateway to Cusco, controlling access from the Collasuyo region to the Inca capital. Built in the 17th century, the chapel features mural paintings depicting textile designs, local flora, and fauna, as well as Baroque-style altarpieces and paintings adorned with gold leaf.
Our journey continues to the town of Huaro, where we’ll explore the Temple of San Juan Bautista. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, this Baroque-style temple preserves murals used during the evangelization process.
Andahuaylillas is our next stop, home to the Temple of San Pedro Apóstol. Known as the "Sistine Chapel of the Americas," this late 16th-century temple boasts incredible mural paintings, a collection of well-preserved colonial organs, and an altar dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary. The ceiling is entirely covered with floral and fruit motifs adorned with gold leaf, complemented by numerous paintings framed in gold.
To complete this immersive cultural experience, we’ll visit the Tipon Archaeological Complex, a site dedicated to water worship, agricultural experimentation, and artificial microclimate management. This adventure will allow you to witness the splendor of Baroque art firsthand.
