Itinerary Trek to Lares & Tour to Machu Picchu
Day 1: Cusco – Calca – Lares - Huacawasi
The adventure will start at 6:00am with the pick up from your hotel in Cusco. Aboarding our tourist transport we go to the town of Lares arriving at this nice place about noon. There we will enjoy its thermal baths and we will taste a delicious lunch while we observe a beautiful landscape.
Shortly afterwards, we will start our upward hike of 4 hours until we reach our first camp, during which we will have magnificent views of mountains, waterfalls, Lares river and various Andean communities that still maintain their ancestral customs and traditions intact. Finally we’ll reach Huacawasi, a typical community that has some amenities without losing its originality, perfect moment to know this small town where its inhabitants wear typical clothes, we will have dinner and spend the night in campsite.
Day 2: Huacawasi – Chalhuayococha
After getting up we will enjoy a succulent breakfast and we will continue with our ascending trek, until arriving at the Sacsayllame pass located at 4300 msnm; the climb is slow but it is quite steep. There we will see fantastic landscapes of enormous mountains, a lagoon with crystalline water, crops in the surroundings. After enjoying these breathtaking views, we will start descending until we reach the Chahuayococha lagoon where our second campsite will be.
In short, this day we will walk around 6 hours.
Day 3: Chalhuayococha – Yanahuara – Ollantaytambo – Aguas C
This day we will have breakfast early and we will begin the trek towards the town of Yanahuara, accompanied by beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, we will experience changes of climate, even we will be able to see some vizcachas, falcons, llamas, alpacas or even condors of the valley.
When arriving at Yanahuara we will board the tourist transport that will take us to Ollantaytambo, characteristic for its small streets of stone. Depending on the schedule we will take a walk getting to know this town and we can have lunch. There we will board the train to the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes). During the 2 hours journey we will notice the change of vegetation from valley to tropical zone or high jungle.
In Aguas Calientes someone will be waiting to take us to the reserved accommodation to rest. There we will have the visit of our guide with the indications for the following day.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes - Cusco
5:30am approximately we will leave our accommodation after breakfast, we will take a tourist bus in a trip of 30 minutes until we arrive at the citadel of Machu Picchu. After a tour guided by this wonderful archeological site learning about the history of the Incas, we will have free time to enjoy this mysterious citadel on our own.
Soon it will be time to return, depending on the train schedule, we will go down by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch and take the train back to Ollantaytambo, then we will take the transport that will be waiting for us at the station, to take us to the city of Cusco.
