A fabulous but challenging experience, this excursion is perfect for adventurers and nature lovers as we will appreciate several impressive landscapes, especially when we are at our highest point at 4700 masl, from where we will observe the imposing snowy peak of Salkantay. Then we’ll descend to a Tropical zone, full of vegetation towards the Inca sanctuary of Machu Picchu, a world wonder!

Itinerary of Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata - Soraypampa (3900 masl)

We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 4:30am, and we will head to Mollepata where the amazing hike begins, an 8-hour journey approximately until we arrive at Soraypampa where it will be our first camp.

Day 2: Soraypampa - Paso Salkantay - Challhuay

We will go up to the Salkantay Pass, considered one of the hardest stretches, there we will enjoy breathtaking views of the snow-capped Salkantay, and then we’ll start descending to Challhuay, where we will camp for the second time.

Day 3: Chalhuay – La Playa (1900 masl)

During this day we will have a journey of about 7 hours to Santa Teresa. In the route we will pass through villages like Arrayanpata, Collpapampa, Wiñaypuji and La Playa, accompanied by tropical landscapes. In Santa Teresa we will camp and enjoy its thermal baths.

Day 4: La Playa - Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes (Optional: Zip Line)

During this day we will walk on a flat route full of vegetation, rivers and waterfalls to Hidroeléctrica, and then to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in the hotel reserved.

Day 5: Machu Picchu - Cusco City

Last day of adventure, we will walk from Aguas Calientes to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu where we’ll have a guided tour. In the afternoon we will take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and a tourist transportation to Cusco.

  • The cook will join us for the 4 first days of the tour, for the preparations of the meals
