Tambopata 3 days / 2 nights

Explore the Tambopata National Reserve, one of Peru's most popular destinations due to its incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna. Our 3-day, 2-night Tambopata tour is the perfect eco-adventure to explore the rainforest of Puerto Maldonado, the capital of Madre de Dios. We combine adrenaline, nature, and comfort into a single, unforgettable trip.

During this fascinating excursion through the Puerto Maldonado jungle, you will have the opportunity to encounter a wide variety of animal and plant species. You will take part in exciting activities such as canopy walking, zip-lining, kayaking on the Madre de Dios River, and hiking along lush jungle trails.

Every day of this Tambopata tour brings a new and breathtaking experience. You will visit Monkey Island, Sandoval Lake, and the famous Parrot Clay Lick, where you can observe hundreds of macaws and parrots. The package fully includes eco-lodge accommodation, transport, and traditional jungle meals.

Day 1: Jungle Eco-adventure - Canopy, Zip-line, and Kayaking

The first day of your Tambopata tour is packed with excitement and unforgettable experiences. We will pick you up from your hotel or the airport in Puerto Maldonado and transfer you by tourist transport to our eco-lodge, located on the banks of the Madre de Dios River (approx. a 40-minute journey).

After settling into your room at the lodge, we will hike through the forest toward the canopy and zip-line circuit. This activity involves climbing up and crossing a wooden suspension bridge high in the treetops, offering spectacular views of the jungle and the chance to spot a great variety of birds. Afterward, you will experience the zip-line—an exhilarating flight down from the forest canopy.

In the afternoon, we will embark on an amazing kayaking adventure. We will paddle down the Madre de Dios River, navigating through the lush jungle scenery. Next, we will visit Monkey Island, where we will encounter different species of primates, making your experience even more memorable.

At sunset, we will take a guided night walk to observe nocturnal birds, insects, and wildlife—a truly unique rainforest experience. Finally, we will have dinner at the lodge at around 7:00 PM.

After picking you up in Puerto Maldonado, we will transfer to our eco-lodge on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. During the day, you will challenge your fear of heights on the canopy bridge and zip-line, kayak along the river, and visit Monkey Island before a guided night hike through the jungle.

We dedicate the second day of your Puerto Maldonado tour to exploring the Tambopata National Reserve and its natural jewel: Sandoval Lake. This beautiful lake is home to the giant river otters, which are playful and fascinating creatures.

After a delicious breakfast at the lodge, we will head toward the Tambopata National Reserve. We will pass through the official checkpoint to register, and then begin a 45-minute trek through the tropical rainforest, where we will observe an immense variety of flora and fauna.

Upon reaching Sandoval Lake, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in its waters (optional activity). We will savor a delicious, traditional jungle lunch outdoors while taking in the natural beauty of the area.

The final day of your Tambopata eco-adventure will be spectacular. We will visit the famous Parrot Clay Lick, a natural gathering site for hundreds of brightly colored parrots, macaws, and other bird species.

We will board our tourist boat very early (approx. 4:30 AM) to navigate the Madre de Dios River toward the Parrot Clay Lick. This early schedule is ideal for witnessing the morning arrival of thousands of parakeets and parrots that gather at the clay licks to feed on minerals.

From a safe distance, you will witness a unique natural spectacle: the mass arrival of red-and-green macaws, parakeets, Amazon parrots, and other birds. It is an experience you will never forget.

At around 7:00 AM, we will return to the eco-lodge to enjoy a final breakfast. Afterward, we will take our tourist transport back to Puerto Maldonado, where we will drop you off at your hotel, the airport, or the bus station.

  Recommendations

What is the best month to visit Tambopata and take the tour?

The best period for your Tambopata eco-adventure is between May and October (the dry season), when there is less rain and better visibility. However, the Tambopata National Reserve can be visited all year round. From December to April (the rainy season), you will spot more wildlife, but there will be higher precipitation. For canopy walking, zip-lining, and kayaking, we especially recommend June, July, and August.

Do I need to be in good physical shape for the Tambopata tour?

This 3-day, 2-night Puerto Maldonado tour is of moderate difficulty. A reasonable physical condition is required to:

  • Walk between 45 minutes to 2 hours daily
  • Participate in the canopy walk and zip-line (safe activities with a harness)
  • Paddle in a kayak for 1 to 2 hours

If you have any physical limitations (knee or back problems, vertigo), please let us know when booking so we can adjust the itinerary. All activities are optional; you can observe without participating actively.

Is the Tambopata tour safe? Are there dangerous animals?

Yes, the Tambopata tour is very safe. We have been operating these eco-adventures in Puerto Maldonado for over 10 years.

Our safety measures include:

Regarding dangerous animals: The Tambopata jungle is full of wildlife, but animals naturally avoid humans. It is very rare to encounter jaguars, anacondas, or caimans during the Tambopata tour. We strictly follow safety protocols to minimize any risks.
