Itinerary Ascent to Misti Volcano South Route
Day 1: Arequipa – Monte Blanco Base Camp
Your adventure begins with hotel pickup in Arequipa between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. From there, we’ll take a 4x4 vehicle on a scenic 3-hour drive to the starting point of our hike.
The ascent starts gradually, allowing us to soak in the breathtaking Andean landscapes. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Aguada Blanca Dam (4,230m/13,878ft), a crucial water source for Arequipa and a natural haven for wildlife, including the elegant Parihuanas (Andean flamingos).
After approximately 3 hours of trekking, we’ll reach our base camp at 4,700m (15,420ft). Here, we’ll set up camp and enjoy a well-deserved lunch or early dinner around 4:00 PM. The afternoon is perfect for resting, acclimatizing, and sharing experiences with fellow adventurers. Our expert guide will also share fascinating stories and legends about Misti and Chachani Volcanoes.
As the sun sets, we’ll head to our tents for an early rest, preparing for the ultimate challenge ahead: reaching the summit of Misti Volcano!
Day 2: Base Camp – Summit – Return to Arequipa
At 1:00 AM, we’ll wake up to an energizing breakfast before starting the challenging 6 to 7-hour ascent. As we climb, the Andean night will gradually give way to a breathtaking sunrise over the highlands.
Reaching the 5,825m (19,110ft) summit will be an unforgettable reward! From the top, you’ll witness the imposing active crater, where the earth breathes with sulfur fumes rising into the sky. The panoramic views of Arequipa and the surrounding valleys will leave you speechless—don’t forget your camera to capture this once-in-a-lifetime moment!
After soaking in the views and taking plenty of photos, we’ll begin our 2-hour descent back to base camp. Here, we’ll take a well-earned break before our 4x4 ride back to Arequipa, arriving with the satisfaction of conquering one of the Andes’ most iconic volcanoes.
