What we recommend bringing

  • Wear comfortable, layered clothing. The weather can change rapidly, with cool mornings and evenings while the days can be warm.
  • Use comfortable walking shoes; some places may be unstable or slippery.
  • Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as UV rays are intensified at high altitudes.
  • Carry a water bottle to stay hydrated during the tour, as altitude can increase your need for fluids.
  • Don’t forget to bring your camera or mobile phone with sufficient battery and space to capture the beauty of Colca Canyon and its inhabitants.

Other trip recommendations

  • Be respectful of local customs and traditions. Ask for permission before taking photographs of people and their homes.
  • Bring some cash if you wish to buy local crafts. The towns along the route are known for their artisan work, and buying crafts is a great way to support the community.
  • Keep the contact information for the tour guide and travel agency handy for any emergencies or additional coordination needs.
  • Consider bringing your medications.
  • Maintain an open and curious attitude. Peru has a rich and fascinating culture, and your experience will be more rewarding if you engage and learn from it.
  • Do not leave trash in the places you visit. Carry a bag to collect your waste and help keep the environment clean.
  • Check and adhere to the tour departure times to ensure you do not experience delays or miss your transportation.
