Day 1: Arequipa - Chivay hot spring waters
We will begin the tour by picking up participants from their hotel in Arequipa at 8:00 in the morning. We will board the transport that will take us to Chivay. Along the way, we will make several stops to enjoy and photograph points of interest, such as Pampas de Cañahuas, Patahuasi, Taqora, and Patapampa, which offer vast landscapes with rock formations, lagoons, snow-capped mountains, and local flora and fauna.
We will arrive in Chivay around noon and head to the reserved hostel to settle in and have lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the La Calera hot springs and a small nearby museum, where we will also enjoy a folkloric show. Dinner will be on your own, and we will spend the night at the hotel.
Day 2: Cruz del Condor - sorrounding towns - Arequipa
We will start the day very early. At 5:30 in the morning, after breakfast, we will head to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint. On the way, our first stop will be the town of Yanque, where we can enjoy traditional dances and visit its colonial church with beautiful portals.
At approximately 8:00 in the morning, we will arrive at Cruz del Cóndor, where we can observe the flight of the endangered condors and enjoy spectacular views of the canyon. An optional 40-minute hike along the canyon edge is also offered.
On our way back to Chivay, we will stop at the Antahuilque viewpoint to take impressive photos of the Colca Canyon. Then, we will visit the Choquetico tombs to admire the archaeological remains carved into the slopes of Cerro Cabanaconde. We will continue with a visit to the town of Maca and its mestizo baroque-style church.

Recommendations
- Be respectful of local customs and traditions. Ask for permission before taking photographs of people and their homes.
- Bring some cash if you wish to buy local crafts. The towns along the route are known for their artisan work, and buying crafts is a great way to support the community.
- Keep the contact information for the tour guide and travel agency handy for any emergencies or additional coordination needs.
- Consider bringing your medications.
- Maintain an open and curious attitude. Peru has a rich and fascinating culture, and your experience will be more rewarding if you engage and learn from it.
- Do not leave trash in the places you visit. Carry a bag to collect your waste and help keep the environment clean.
- Check and adhere to the tour departure times to ensure you do not experience delays or miss your transportation.
What to bring for this tour?
- Wear comfortable, layered clothing. The weather can change rapidly, with cool mornings and evenings while the days can be warm.
- Use comfortable walking shoes; some places may be unstable or slippery.
- Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as UV rays are intensified at high altitudes.
- Carry a water bottle to stay hydrated during the tour, as altitude can increase your need for fluids.
- Don’t forget to bring your camera or mobile phone with sufficient battery and space to capture the beauty of Colca Canyon and its inhabitants.
