El Misti, how do you get?

The Misti volcano is located in the city of Arequipa and is one of the most important symbols of this beautiful city that nowadays shows in its buildings made with sillar (volcanic stone) that are evidence of the eruptions of this volcano in the past.

From the city of Arequipa you can get to this volcano on its own or with a specialized agency, the second option is the most secure while the ascent to the Misti is not very complicated, sometimes it is better to have a qualified guide and the necessary equipment.

How to get to us?

To access the Misti Volcano there are two routes:

Route 1 Chiguata: Chiguata is located about 30 km from the city of Arequipa and can be reached by addressing a private mobility that leaves you in this town that is 2970 meters above sea level, and from here begins the walk to the base camp where it is spent for the morning of the following day to ascend to the top of the Misti (5825 masl).

In Chiguata can you get a spectacular view of platforms and houses built with stones and mud.

Route 2 Aguada Blanca Path: This route takes us by the reserve of Aguada Blanca where auquénidos are preserved in the wild as the vicuñas.

To get to this place we must address one disabled from Arequipa in a journey of 3 hours approximately until ascend to the 4000 meters above sea level in the CABRERÍAS and then continue up to the foothills of the Misti Volcano.

From the base of the volcano we start the ascent to the Misti, the route is uphill so it is a bit more complicated than the route 1. The ascent is done in an average of 8 hours.

When to go?

The city of Arequipa is located in the southern part of Peru and has a temperate climate with temperatures of 10°C to 24 °C, the nights become something cold so you are recommended to take warm clothes.

The best time to make the ascent to the Misti is the dry season from April to October this due to the almost non-existent presence of rain that might hinder the way.
