Whale watching, the 2018 season starts now!

Every year between the months of July to October the coasts of the Peruvian North are visited by the giant humpback whales, which travel hundreds of thousands of kilometers from the cold waters of Antarctica to reproduce and give birth to their "little ones" calves.

Although some sightings of these marine giants have already been recorded in the month of June is in the months of July, August and September in which you can spot these cetaceans even from the shores of Piura and Tumbes.

But if you want to appreciate and enjoy the spectacle of these animals, we recommend you hire a tour with a specialized agency and know the rules and cares that must be taken so as not to disturb the tranquility of the whales and the marine fauna that lives in the area.

Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae): or also known as Yurbata (humpback) belongs to the family of huge cetaceans reaching up to 16 m and weigh up to 36,000 kg.

This species has a distinctive body shape, with long pectoral fins and a knotty head. This whale is acrobatic since it is often propelled on the surface of the water to then hit it.

These giants that live all over the world travel enormous distances from the cold waters to tropical or subtropical waters to be able to reproduce and give birth to their offspring during the polar winter. During mating the males emit a song that can last between ten to twenty minutes and that repeats for hours.

These marine giants feed mainly on krill and small fish and a unique hunting method is to create bubbles to capture their prey.

In addition to the humpback whales you can also see other species such as blue whales, sea lions, orcas, common dolphins, as well as some birds such as the blue-footed booby and the frigate bird or frigate bird.

Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this experience that can only be appreciated in some parts of the world during this time and book your trip to northern Peru.
