Machupicchu was hidden from the world for centuries thanks to a remote and inaccessible location. Machu Picchu is located on a saddle between two peaks, while the closest city, Aguas Calientes, is located below it in the Vilcanota River Valley, just a few kilometers away in a straight line. It takes approximately 20 minutes ascending along a narrow, zigzagging road to reach the ruins from Aguas Calientes.
