It is a department located north-west of Peru, the capital of the department of the same name, it is the least extensive department and the fifth most densely populated, it was founded on November 15, 1942.
It has a beautiful coastline composed of diverse ecosystems such as estuaries and mangroves, the tropical forest of the Pacific (Tumbes National Reserve) and the equatorial dry forest (Cerros de Amotape National Park). Tumbes is the perfect setting for water sports or simple relaxation.
Between the months of June to October the North Coast of Peru is visited by huge Humpback Whales to reproduce and give birth to their "little" whales before returning to Antarctica where they live the rest of the year.
