Choquequirao to Machu Picchu
Description :
An unusual adventure of ups and downs, where you will visit Cordillera de Vilcabamba, a mountain that boasts striking and varied landscapes, snow-capped peaks and beautifully tropical vegetation.
Nature is not the only attraction of this tour, because you will also find a great legacy with a network of roads built in stone, throughout the journey up to the charming and magical Machu Picchu.
Itinerary:
day 1 : cusco - cachora - cocamasana
You will be picked up at 06:00 hrs and taken on a tourist bus to Cachora, arriving at 11:00 hrs. Here you will enjoy a delicious lunch, and after which you will begin a 4 to 5 hour walk to Cocamasana. During the walk, you can see out into the distance from the viewpoint of Choquequirao Capuliyoc and will have a stunning view of the canyon of the Apurimac. Once at Cocamasana, you will enjoy dinner and set up camp for the night.
day 2 : cocamasana - choquequirao
After a nutritious breakfast, you will commence on a downward walk to Playa Rosalina for 3 to 4 hours. Once here, you will continue to hike ascending Marampata where you will enjoy lunch, and after a short break, continue our trek to the campsite at Choquequirao. Here there is an impressive view of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, with diverse vegetation including ferns, chachacomas, q'euñas, among other wildlife. As well as this, there are also bears, gray deer, and orioles. In the camp you will enjoy another delicious dinner and a good nights sleep.
day 3 : choquequirao - rio blanco - maizal
After a very early breakfast, you will have a tour of the archaeological site of Choquequirao, visit el Sector de las llamas, and the religious sector Usnu where you will continue the walk to the Blanco River. Here you will have lunch and ascend for 4 to 5 hours to Maizal, where you will be camping for the night. During the walk you can see the back of the archaeological site of Choquequirao and the mixture of the classic landscape of the jungle.
Day 4 : maizal - abra yanama-yanama
After a delicious breakfast, you will embark on a 4 to 5 hour walk up to Yanama where you can visit the mines and see the flight of the condor with a breathtaking view of the Vilcabamba mountain range, the Nevado del Ampay and light overview of the peaks of Choquequirao. From here, you will continue the journey, stop for lunch, continue to Yanama where you will enjoy a dinner and have set up camp for the night.
day 5 : yanama - collpapampa
After breakfast, you will hike for 3 hours up to Totora, during which, you will encounter the native vegetation of the jungle such as bamboo, fruit, including fruit trees and medicinal plants. You will contintue on to a place called Collpapampa where you will enjoy dinner and stay overnight. Optionally, here you can enjoy the Collpapampa hot springs.
day 6 : collpapampa - santa teresa
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you will begin a walk of over 4 hours to Playa Sahuayaco, where you will have delicious lunch, bid farewell to the helpful muleteers and continue by bus to Santa Teresa. Once there, you will have dinner, enjoy the Cocalmayu hot springs and then spend the night here.
day 7 : santa teresa - hydroelectrica - aguas calientes
After breakfast, you will walk to the town where you can see the sights and enjoy lunch. After which, you will take the the train from the Hydroelectrica to Aguas Calientes. Here you will enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night in a comfortable and clean hostel.
day 8 : aguas calientes - machu picchu - cusco
After breakfast, you will take the bus to Machu Picchu, where you will enjoy the warmth and charm of this sacred wonder of the world. You will have a guided tour of approximately 2 hours and then enjoy free time to explore and take pictures . In the afternoon you will return by bus to Aguas Calientes where you will board the train back to Cusco.
