This is a tough trek hiking down into the canyon of the Apurimac river and up again. Here you reach the Inca ruins of Choquequirao, as extensive as Machu Picchu, but one that only recently has become known. It is a tough, off the beaten path destination. trek salkantay
The snowy peak of Salkantay (6372m) has been considered a sacred mountain from the time of the Inkas, and so the trails surrounding Salkantay are also Inka trails. In this walk you can appreciate the surrounding glacial walls. The hike begins in the friendly town of Mollepara. As you are walking up the trail, the snow peaks appear in the valley.

hiking Lares to Machu Picchu
Trekking in this area takes you into the remote and rarely visited Lares Valley with the spectacular backdrop of the Urubamba Mountains. The Urubamba range lies to east of the Sacred Valley. Expedition Choquequirao to Machu Piacchu
Choquequirao means "cradle of gold" in Quechua although this is probably not its original Inca name. It is another "lost city of the Incas" located high on a ridge spur almost 1750m above the raging glacier-fed Apurimac River and surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks.
