Trekking in this area takes you into the remote and rarely visited Lares Valley with the spectacular backdrop of the Urubamba Mountains. The Urubamba range lies to east of the Sacred Valley. It stretches for 30km, and has several snow-capped peaks, the best know of which is Veronica (5,750m), the most prominent snow peak that can be seen from the Machu Picchu train.

itinerary

first day: cusco - calca - lares - quishuarani

Pick up from hotel at 5 a.m. We leave from Cusco at approximately 6:00 a.m. with destination to the province of Calca. We continue on to the small town of Lares in bus, which takes approximately 3 ½ hours. We start the hike, which lasts approximately 8-9 hours. We stop for lunch at noon, and continue hiking until we arrive to the Andean community of Quishuarani where we will camp.

second day: quishuarani - cancha cancha

A wake-up tea at 6 a.m., and breakfast at 6:45 a.m., this day we start the hike at approximately 7:30 a.m. and will hike for about 8 hours. During the hike you will be able to see the natural beauty of the Andes. You will be able to experience the local people in their way of living. We will make our way to our destination of Cancha Cancha where we will camp the second night.

third day: cancha cancha - Huran - ollantaytambo - aguas calientes

We will have tea at 6am, breakfast at 6:30 am, and later we will visit the local people of the area. At approx. 8 a.m. We will begin the hike of 4-5 hours. You will be able to appreciate a view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. As well, you will see the diversity of plant life, with many orchids along the trail. When we arrive to Huaran at around noon, we will eat lunch and then continue on to the town of Ollantaytambo where we will board the train to Aguas Calientes. We will then go and rest at our hotel.

fourth day: aguas calientes - machu picchu - aguas calientes - cusco

We get up very early to eat breakfast, so that we may arrive at Machu Picchu at 5:30 am. to see the sunrise. The guide will accompany you for approx. two hours and then you will have free time to take pictures and explore. Afterwards, you go back down to Aguas Calientes to board the train to Cusco.
