Alternative Route to Machu Picchu

Description :

Dare to discover the mystery and charm of being immersed in the union of the frigidity of the Andes and the warmth of the jungle. Enjoy the enigmatic site of the Incas "Machu Picchu".

Itinerario

day 01 : cusco - ollantaytambo - santa maria

You will be picked up at 07:30 hrs and will cycle up to an altitude of 4350m where you will have panoramic views of Cusco and the Sacred Valley. You will cycle to Abra de Málaga, where you will see the vastness of the valley and the beautiful scenery of the jungle.

After this, you will begin a down hill cycle to the village of Carrizales. During the journey you will enjoy a packed lunch and visit the archaeological site of Wamanmarka. After about 5 hours of cycling you will get to Santa Maria (1130m) where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a guest house.

day 02 : santa maria - santa teresa

After a nutritious breakfast, you will embark on a walking trail filled with natural vegetation, during which, you can observe wildlife in the region such as birds, medicinal plants, fruit trees and crops of coca and coffee. After the walk you can optionally go to the baths of Santa Teresa. In Santa Teresa you will enjoy lunch, dinner and spend the night in a hostel.

day 03 : santa teresa - hydro - aguas calientes

After a delicious breakfast, you will start a hike at 08:00hrs, where you will see La Oroya, which crosses the Vilcanota (holy river of the Incas).You will also find a great variety of butterflies, parrots, small iguanas, birds and insects. After lunch, you will continue your hike for approximately 3 hours to finally arrive at Aguas Calientes, where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night in a comfortable hostel. Optionally you can enjoy the hot springs of Aguas Calientes.

day 04 : machu picchu - cusco

You will have an early start embarking on a 1hr.20 minutes journey to Machu Picchu. Optionally, if you need more sleep, you may go by bus. After arriving, you will take a 2 hour guided tour, and then have free time to explore the place and take photos. Around midday you will return to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo in the afternoon. Here you will catch the bus back to Cusco.
