Choquequirao Trek

This is an alternative to the traditional tours in a hike where you will get to know Choquequirao, the last refuge of the Incas. This city has centuries old, huge platforms with figures that represent diverse mammals of the highlands of the Andes (auchenids) and incredible buildings above streams; is considered the sister of Machu Picchu because of the similarity in their architecture. Also the environment that surrounds this impressive complex is one of the richest in biological diversity.

Day 1: Cusco - Capuliyoc - Chiquisca

Get ready for a day full of excitement and dreamlike landscapes! We depart early in the morning from Cusco, heading northeast toward the charming village of Cachora, located at 2,850 meters above sea level. Surrounded by majestic mountains and the towering Padreyoc snow-capped peak, Cachora is the perfect starting point for our adventure.

Our first stop is Capuliyoc, where we will meet the horsemen who will help us carry the camping equipment. As we begin our hike, the imposing Padreyoc welcomes us from the Capuliyoc pass, at an altitude of 2,800 meters.

From Capuliyoc, the views become even more spectacular with the appearance of the Apurimac Canyon. Here, the landscape leaves us breathless as we continue our way toward the Choquequirao archaeological site. The hike takes us on a short but impressive descent until we reach the Chiquisca campsite, located at 1,930 meters.

During this approximately 7-hour trek, we will enjoy a warm climate, accompanied by some mosquitoes that only add a touch of adventure to the journey.

Enjoy this epic experience and discover the hidden magic of the Andes, from the heights of Cachora to the wonders of Choquequirao with Inca World!

After an energizing breakfast, we set off on a 30-minute descent toward Playa Rosalina, located at 1,500 meters above sea level. From here, we prepare for the challenge of the day: a quick and vigorous ascent through the canyon under the warm Andean sun, until we reach the picturesque village of Marampata at 2,850 meters.

In Marampata, we will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the Choquequirao archaeological site. As the sun sets, the landscape transforms into a spectacle of colors, and if we are lucky, we may spot the majestic flight of the Andean condor over the ancient mountains of the Vilcabamba range and the impressive Choquequirao archaeological complex.

Just 20 minutes away from the archaeological center, we will set up our camp for the night, surrounded by history and natural beauty.
