The Cultural Zone is one of three areas of the Manu National Park which covers high mountains, cloud forest and lowland. In this area there are people and communities involved in collecting, farming and logging control.

This is an intangible and endangered zone.

Itinerario

day 01 : cusco - paucartambo - acjanacu - san pedro

You will be picked up from Cusco at 05:00 hrs and taken for a tour around beautiful communities and scenic valleys. You will visit the Pre-Inca Chullpas Tombs of Ninamarca. At midday, you will explore the charming colonial town of Paucartambo and then continue to climb up the mountain path of Acjanacu to an altitude of 3850m. From here you will begin the descent through the Cloud Forest, an area rich in endemic plant species such as the spectacled bear, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and many others. Afterwards, you will ascend to San Pedro camp where you will enjoy a delicious dinner and will spend the night.

day 02 : san pedro - pilcopata - atalaya

Early in the morning, you will be taken to observe the interesting courtship dance of the Cock of the Rock, Peru's national bird, which has a striking plumage of an intense red-orange color. After breakfast you will continue by bus through the high jungle, arriving at the town of Pilcopata and then continue to the port of Atalaya (700 m) located along the Alto Madre de Dios River, where a motorboat will be waiting for you to take you safely down the river so you can observe the existing variety of birds such as herons, vultures, cormorants, among others. The boat will then give you passage to the hostel, where you will enjoy dinner and a comfortable bed.

day 03 : lake machuwasi

The hostel is located between Alta and Selva Selva Baja (1550 m -600 m). The variation of altitude leads to high diversity of wildlife in the area so we will have an early breakfast in order to have ample opportunity to explore. After breakfast, you will board the boat for 5 minutes and be taken across the Alto Madre de Dios River and after approximately 30 minutes walking through an interesting trail of sensitive plants, heliconias and fruit plantations, you will reach the Machuwasi lagoon where where you can see birds like heron, tucanetas, carpenter crestirojo, bienteveos and cardinals among others. After the tour, you will enjoy lunch and head back to the hostel for a delicious dinner and another overnight stay.

day 04 : collpa - atalaya - cusco

After breakfast, you will board the boat which will sail for 10 minutes to the Collpa, a clay wall where you can observe the different species of parrots, and other birds. At the end of the visit, you will enjoy lunch and continue on the boat to the Port of Atalaya, where the bus will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.
