Sillustani Ruins Puno - Tour Puno Sillustani

Sillustani is a pre-Incan burial ground on the shores of Lake Umayo near Puno in Peru. The tombs, which are built above ground in tower-like structures called chullpas, are the vestiges of the Colla people, Aymara who were conquered by the Inca in the 15th century. The structures housed the remains of complete family groups, although they were probably limited to nobility. Many of the tombs have been dynamited by grave robbers, while others were left unfinished

We pick you up from your hotel at 02:00 p.m. and the departure in a Bus is at 02:30 p.m. We will take an approximately 40 minute Trip. Upon arrival we will take a one and a half hour walk at the Sillustani Complex with the guide. It contains the famous CHULLPAS, which are towers built of stone and some are as tall as 12m (39ft). They were used by the Collas and later by the Incas. The Lake Umayo, is in front of the archeological site, which only adds to the beauty of the place, especially at sunrise. In the vicinity you can also see some waru waru, the artificial hillocks of earth designed for protecting crops from frost and floods. Sillustani is also a good place to observe wild guinea pigs, birds and other wildlife of the high Andes. Then we will arrive in Puno at 18.00 p.m. we will bring you back to your hotels.
