Maras & Salt Mines

A non traditional circuit that in the last years is gaining importance is visiting the Maras town, Moray, the "Salt Works" and Pichingoto; they are visited all together or separately. Maras is a district of the Urubamba province, possible to be reached through a paved road from kilometre 50 on the road Qosqo - Chinchero - Urubamba.

Tour Itinerary

At 8:30 a.m. we will pick you up at the hostel. This excursion last for half the day. We leave in the direction of Moray which is located in the valley of Urubamba, to the north of the town of Maras. Moray is a unique construction of various circular platforms that served as gardens for different products.

Continuing on the excursion we will arrive at the Salt Mines of Maras. These are impressive platforms of salt formed by thousands of white wells that appear like snow. These have been used for thousands of years, long before the rule of the Inka. 1:00 p.m. - Return to the city of Cusco
