Machu Picchu Overnight

Machu Picchu lay hidden from the world for a long time because its location is fairly remote and inaccessible. Machu Picchu is located high up on a mountainside.

The nearest town is Aguas Calientes which is located on the foot of Machu Picchu in the valley at the Vilcanota River.

Aguas Calientes is only a couple of kilometres away from Machu Picchu as the crow flies but it takes a bus ride of about 20 minutes to climb the narrow, steep zigzagging dirt track that connects the two.

Tour Itinerary

1ST DAY CUSCO - AGUAS CALIENTES

That tour start picking you up from your hotel/hostel in the morning to and driving to Ollantaytambo train station to take the train to Aguas Calientes, that route is like a 4 hours, during the route we will se the fauna and flora of the Machu Picchu National Sanctuary.

At the Aguas Calientes train station there will be a transfer waiting for you to take you to the hostel. You have time to walk around town to explore or optionally you can climb the Putucusi Mountain, which is a mountain close to the town, from where you can see the Machu Picchu Complex.

In the afternoon you will go down to Aguas Calientes town by bus to have lunch and optionally you can go to the hot springs to relax the muscles. Here you are going to spend the night in a hostel.

2nd Day

Very early the next day you will take the bus from Aguas Calientes to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary. You will have a tour guide for approximately 2 hours then you have free time to visit the Waynapicchu Mountain and other places inside of the Machu Picchu complex and after that you have to return to Aguas Calientes, where we will have lunch and a train back to Ollantaytambo and a bus to Cusco.
