Maras, Moray and Salt Mines

Maras is located at an altitude of 3,700 meters above sea level, at a distance of 48.10km through the road of Cusco - Chinchero - Urubamba

The Salt mines of Maras Impressive complex of exploitation of salt, located in the landscape named Qoripujio, at a distance of 4 km from the Maras Town. These salt mines were exploited since Inca times in a way to exchange economic value. From Maras one can visit the salt mines, following a narrow path. Here one can find itself with mules that still carry salt that is extracted from the natural salt mines.

Tour Itinerary

01 Day: Cusco - Chinchero - Cruzpata - Urubamba

You will depart from Cusco at 09:00a.m. And be transported to the town of Cruzpata (Maras) where you will cycle close to the Huaypo Lake and Mahuaypampa Village.

After a brief tour you will get to Moray where you can observe a unique construction of several groups of terraces formed by concentric platforms which served to help preserve the ecosystem. Here you will have a guided tour and enjoy a packed lunch before continuing to the town of Maras and a spectacular downhill journey to the salt mines. Later you will continue towards the town of Urubamba where the return bus will be waiting to take you back to Cusco at approximately 5:00 p.m.
